Love Your Body Day 2013
Wednesday, Oct. 16

NOW Foundation has organized Love Your Body campaign. The Love Your Body campaign challenges the message that a woman's value is best measured through her willingness and ability to embody current beauty standards.

As a long-time yoga teacher, I have met women from around the world who always fret about body and beauty issues: losing weight, looking attractive, getting a flat belly, getting a prized yoga butt, and even getting taller or shorter!

When I was younger, I too, tried to destroy my body through starvation and other extreme means. I would look in the mirror and find every flaw. Big nose. Fat lips. No matter how much I exercised, I always had a potbelly. I despised myself.

As I got older, I knew that I could see my self differently. I went on a journey to change my perception about myself.

The first thing that my teacher, Yogi Bhajan told me is to feel and experience self love.  What does that mean? Self love is not always easy. It might be considered selfish. But, self love is not selfish…it is the most selfless and caring idea we can have about ourselves. We love ourself, we open our hearts for others.
How Do You Love Your Body if You Don’t Have Self Love?
The power and beauty of all women is indescribable and honorable.
It transcends body and image.
Your body does not make you a woman.
Your fashion and your beauty don’t make you a woman.
The one thing that will make you a woman is your self-love of being a woman.
You honor and bless your self.

Yogi Bhajan, said, “Love doesn’t rule you. What rules you is fear, phenomenal fear. If you cannot bless yourself, then nobody can bless you.”

My contribution to #loveyourbody day is a posture from part one of a kundalini yoga set that Yogi Bhajan gave his teachers so that love can be invoked and fear can be reduced.

Invoke the spirit of Mother Earth with your own body.

As I travel from one part of the earth to another part of the earth, I set my intentions for connection. A dear friend recommended this meditation to me a few years ago after having a frightful incident during the revolution. I use it now when I need to connect to the earth before I travel. ps: do this on the ground, not a tree stump ;-0

Old Gypsy Way of Calling on the Spirit of Mother Earth

This meditation will connect and calm you.
Posture: Sit in Easy Pose with a straight spine, and a light Neck Lock.

Mudra: Raise the arms up 60 degrees from horizontal, elbows and wrists straight. Stretch the body forward slightly from the plane of the body. The angle of the palms follows the angle of the arms. The fingers are straight and together, thumbs relaxed.

Visualization: Imagine a flame at the Heart Center. Do not move.

Breath: Breathe consciously, long and deep.

Time: 3 minutes.

To End: Inhale deeply with a prayer for the loftiness of Creator Mother Earth and peace. Hold for 15 seconds. Exhale. Inhale deeply. Feel in your heart the blessing of the Divine Mother. Hold for 15 seconds. Exhale. Inhale deep. Feel the taste of the sweetness of life. Hold for 15 seconds. Exhale.

Yogi Bhajan originally taught us this meditation on July 4, 1994

Let Love Rule

Do you know about the book I am holding?
Love is a creative force.
When you question, you stop the progress
And you get wrong progressions in the answer.
Putting conditions on love makes it a negative force.
And it shall destroy the doer.
Love, my friend, is good for your health.
Rejoice and show your gratitude toward God.
Be caring and kind.
It shows your divine strength.
Be compassionate and wise.
It shows your courage.
From the teachings of Yogi Bhajan.

10 Sacred Secrets of Success By Yogi Bhajan

10 Sacred Secrets of Success By Yogi Bhajan

1. Learning is not a Weakness

Time and space and breath of life is the living trinity of life. Every process is a moment; every moment is a process. Learning is to gain wisdom. It gives a grip on our discipline and disciple becomes the Master. Master creates the legacy, legacy lives forever, and mortal becomes Immortal.

2. If Somebody is Avoiding to Reach You, You Reach Out (Knowing is the Knowledge)

If the head has gone cold, heart has gone frozen; if hatred in somebody has eaten up the heat of life and there is no warmth coming to you but still the body is vibrating and the breath of life is keeping it warm - reach out and melt away all the coldness through your humor and boldness so that the flower of friendship can blossom and you can enjoy the fragrance.

3. Be the Altar not the Alternative

Between time and space there is a place which is the altar of human legacy. Each individual must identify this altar and worship it. It will give personality, purpose, and prosperity. Any alternative to this is to lose the gratefulness, the grace, and the glow of life.

4. Let Your Manners Speak for you, Let Your Deeds Prove You, and Let Your Deliverance Impress You.

Every man has a mission. Every mission has a magnitude. To fulfill and deliver the essence of magnitude, one requires manners and attitude. When one does it with devotion and conviction, success comes from all sides.

5. Work Never Waits.

Those Who Wait Have not Started Yet Nobody can stop the time. Time creates the space. We move between longitude and latitude. It is the attitude which works out and completes every work for us.

6. Excuses, Avoidance, and Delays will not Stop the Consequences

Every sequence will have consequences. Every action will have a reaction. Every start will have a finish.

Every beginning will have an end. Our insecurity delays our achievement. Our excuses show our weakness and delay lays the foundation of frustration. The Perfect One God Almighty made us perfect to face every challenge and be a victor. As every artist wants to see his art be the best, so our divinity wants us to conquer our duality.

7. Pros and Cons: Check Properly. It will Save You from Con Games

Play no games. Get straight to the strategy and establish the state and status with your statesmanship. Reach out to everyone with a diplomatic art and loving communication.

8. Be a Statesman and be a Diplomat

If you have a longing to belong, love and reverence are your handy tools to build a leadership to sail through the stormy ocean, and you enter the port of peace and tranquility.

9. Your Individuality, Your Attire, and Your Attitude

- That All Counts above All

You must have vitality to create virtues. You must have values to honor virtues. Your honorable performance will give people trust. Your reverence and love give people belief in you and your honesty and character will give people faith in you.

10. Act Three Ways - Action, Support, Cover (Must include Safe Place for Retreat)

Every action has reaction equal and opposite. What comes, goes. What is born must die. But the wisdom is to create a legacy which is perpetual, everlasting, and guidance for all.

Every action force in strategy must have a cover force and a support force and a place of retreat to take care of the casualties. With that planning one can reach his fulfillment.

navel chakra and medatative states

The navel chakra is extremely important in transforming human energy imbalances. (mind, body, spirit). As the navel chakra develops in balance with the other chakras, the personality traits associated with it change. The power of personal projection becomes enormous.

Without transforming the energy, all the words and suggestions of a guide (such as a spiritual master) are understood in a context of power and gain. No effort will penetrate the consciousness and reality of the person.

A strong balanced nabhi chakra gives the power to maintain a course of action. If an effort is sustains, it becomes a habit. As a habit, it sustains itself. The navel energy is necessary to easily initiate self-sustaining actions.

steady

I prepared to start the kriya, and then I stopped. My mind kicked in with force and rebellion. I had to pause for a few minutes and just let me be. I told myself that I could stop at any time, but I set the timer for the full time. In each posture, as I glanced at the timer, I would say, just a few more minutes. Breath in "Sat", breath out "Nam." Leg up "I am", leg down "I am". I have never looked at the timer as often as I did today. Yet, it wasn't that I was struggling with the pose, it was all mental junk.

My internal temperature isn't heating up as it did when I started. This set really amps up the heat.

Yogi Bhajan on the navel point: "There is a very powerful psychic power under the Navel Point. It sits there like a cobra snake and when it wakes up, it travels through the six centers of the body and awakens them with its touch. When it touches the Seventh Center, the person knows all. When it intermingles with the aura, it delightfully enlightens the arcline and makes everything work out for the person."

some stability returns

The last few days have been a blur. I struggled with dehydration and fought with friends that I would not end up in hospital. Fortunately, my prayers are powerful, and so is my projection. It's all illusion, and I know me best. Though it was touch and go, I have cleared what needed to be cleared so far.

With the exception of the one day that I had to reduce the times of each posture to 1 or 2 minutes, I'm back to the half times. Despite all these physical set backs, I feel stronger. My mental stability is centered and present moment.

Yogi Bhajan: "God gave you the body with praana and apaana. Apaanas are there to eliminate negativity. People who have strong praana and do not have equally strong apaana are very cluttered people. They do not know how to eliminate things and elimination is very important. It is the balance of praana and apaana which creates the power of the Shashmana, the central being, the equilibrium being. The Supreme being will awaken in you only when the praana and apaana both work together. One gives the power and the other eliminates negativeity: all you will be left with is the plus."

praana vayus

Yogi Bhajan: "As a human, you have three forces in you: praana, udyaana, and apaana. If you can control those three vayus, the rest of the vayus will automatically come into alignment. According to the (ancient) scientific facts, the entire functioning of the body is not muscular and is not nervous either, it is by those airs.

"The force which gives you life is called praana. The force which maintains you is call udyaana. The force which is the eliminating faculty in you, is called apaana. So these forces are the principle vayus, powerful air currents. Udyaana relates to your nervous system. Praana gives you energy and apaana takes away what is not needed by you. These are three automatics and you can have conscious control of them if you are conscious enough."

Peace dwells in Silence

Peace dwells in Silence.

PRAYER
God, give us the power to break through our blocks and barriers in life.
Open us,
like the open sea,
to touch the shores of the heart,

And give us the strength of that pleasant breeze,
So that we may hug and kiss the life as it lives among us at this Time and Space.

Give us the values and virtues to be noble,
to be graceful,
And to be glorious in our strength as human beings.

Change our values and virtues from the wrong path,
So we can determine our own path on which we can walk with sincerity
In our physical existence to cover our journey unto our destiny.

In Thy Name we pray.
